Youth Board
North East Crimestoppers have set up the charity's first Youth Board in collaboration with the University of Teesside.
Following a recent volunteer day organised by Jayne Villiers, a member of the main North East Crimestoppers Board and Volunteer Co-ordinator at the University of Teesside, we have formed the country's first Youth Board, together with official founding members Derek Wilde and Jennifer Tremewan.
Dave Hunter, North East Crimestoppers Regional Manager, said: “The enthusiasm and commitment they have shown even at this early stage is fantastic, and they are well on the way to launching their first major Campaign in the Middlesbrough area.”
Jayne Villiers said: “The University of Teesside is delighted to support the development of the first ever Youth Board for Crimestoppers. University student volunteers can play a major part in supporting local and national organisations, enhancing both their personal and employability skills.”
This is the first time that Crimestoppers has formed a dedicated Youth Board. Although the Youth Board operates independently of the main board, it has a representative in the form of Jayne Villiers.
Aims and Objectives
The Youth Board will look at developing a range of activities and events which will help to increase the awareness of Crimestoppers' work. They will also work closely with the police to help promote force initiatives (such as ‘Tackling Drugs and Changing Lives'). The Youth Board will look at ways in which to support such initiatives, as well as developing new activities to support the ongoing work of the regional Crimestoppers Board.
The Youth Board is comprised of students from the University of Teesside. In the first instance, these student volunteers will be responsible for developing the Youth Board for the Tees Valley Region. It is hoped that once established, the Crimestoppers Board will look at developing Youth Boards within the other local Universities (Northumbria, Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland).
The Teesside Youth Board will endeavour to promote Crimestoppers through a range of activities developed and managed by the Youth Board. These will include development of materials for the Youth Board, organising events such as crime days, working with media, campaigning and fundraising.
